Cataracts, symptoms and treatment

Cataracts are the cloudy part of our eye. Many vision losses are caused by cataract. Specialists say that the number of eye problems globally which are caused by cataract is more than any others (like diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma or macular degeneration). The fact is that the number of cataract patients increases as the age of people. Cataract is also the main reason of blindness in the world.

When Cataracts happen to someone, his eye lens would become cloudy. To see, the light must pass the lens, but the cataract is like a barrier toward light. So the vision would get blurry. If the cataract is an inherited problem, they can appear at birth or after it in childhood. If it is caused by aging, it would appear during your life. Cataract mostly happens for both eyes.

Different types

There are three types of cataracts as below:

  • Subcapsular cataract which happens at the back of eye’s lens. Someone who has diabetes or one that uses much steroid medications is prone to this type of cataract.
  • Nuclear cataract that would occur in the central area of eye’s lens. This type happens by aging.
  • Cortical cataract which forms in the cortex of the lens and is accompanied with a white dimness.

Anterior Vitrectomy

In a cataract surgery, the surgeon may accidentally face the vitreous anterior segment. In this situation the surgeon must have a knowledge of anterior vitrectomy techniques to solve the problem.

Anterior Vitrectomy surgery is to remove the vitreous part from its anterior segment so that the doctor can place an IOL in the eye.

Studies show that more than 90 percent of the patients who go under a cataract surgery, their operation would be successful with no intense complications. But here, we mention some of the cataracts surgery complications, such as:
